Upcoming Program: Wheel of Seasons Phenology Walk May 17

23

Saturday, May 17, 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM
Mount Agamenticus Summit – 21 Mount Agamenticus Road, York ME
Register online by May 15 (required), $10/person

Phenology is the study of recurrent natural events in relation to seasonal climatic changes. We’ll explore the signs of spring in the summit shrubland of Mount Agamenticus with a guided walk of the Big A Trail. Following our walk, we’ll record our observations by creating our own phenology wheels. Write, draw, paint or collage! The phenology wheels we create here can be the start of, or an accompaniment to, a seasonal nature journal.

Some supplies will be provided, but please feel free to bring any art supplies you love! Ages 12+, please. Admission is included with your registration. All participants will receive a dated day pass! If you would prefer to pay by cash in person the day of the event, please reach out to ndensmore@yorkmaine.org to reserve your spot. Please also reach out if this program is of interest, but cost is prohibitive!

Accessibility: The walk portion of this program will take place on the Big A Universal Access trail, a one-mile loop at the summit. This is a popular loop, and our program takes place during peak visitation hours, so you can expect to see other folks on the trail!

The art workshop to follow will take place upstairs in the summit lodge building, which is not wheelchair accessible. Accommodations can be made for this portion of the program to take place outside; multiple accessible picnic tables are available. Participants will also be welcome to spread out in the summit park and create independently at their own pace after project introduction is complete. Any borrowed art materials can be returned to the Conservation Office by 4:00 PM.
