“Know before you go” and help keep Mount A’s trails safe and open! Please continue to adhere to current CDC physical distancing guidelines and pay attention to and follow all posted signage. Visitors from out of state should familiarize themselves with all Maine state guidelines regarding COVID-19, which can be found at Maine.gov. Mount Agamenticus will remain a popular destination for recreation throughout the summer season. Parking is limited and may reach capacity, especially on weekends and holidays. Peak hours are typically between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Have a back-up plan in place!

All organized groups and parties of 10 or more visiting Mount A must fill out our Group Registration Form in advance. Indoor/sheltered space is not available for general group use.

The park and trails are open dawn to dusk.

The summit access road gate is open 6am to sunset from April 1st through October 31st.

➤ Parking – 

  • Parking at Mount A is LIMITED. Park in designated parking areas only and do not block gates or roadways. Abide by all posted signage.
  • Base, Summit, Ring, and Cedar lots are open. Roadside parking is permitted along the southern side of the paved segment of Mountain Road.
  • Have a back-up plan, and BE PREPARED to turn around and head elsewhere if parking is full.

Places to Go:

➤ Amenities/Facilities –

  • Port-a-potties are available at the summit and base and are being serviced twice a week through the spring by an outside company (typically on Mondays and Fridays). There are NO other restrooms available.
  • The Conservation Office is open, but keep in mind staff may be out in the field. Masks are still required inside the building for all visitors. If staff is unavailable and you have a question, call the office phone at (207) 361-1102 OR contact us via our website. We will get back to you as soon as possible. DO NOT call the office in an emergency. In an emergency, call 911.
  • Trail boxes are open and maps are available. You are welcome to take your map with you, or return it to the box to be used by others. Our trail map is still also available online to download or print.
  • Decks and platforms are open; please allow others to exit before going on to decks. Please continue to keep your distance from others.
  • Bring an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Trail boxes, port-a-potties, picnic tables and deck/platform handrails are high touch surfaces.
  • Running water is NOT available at the summit for handwashing or drinking.

For the 2021 season, the summit Learning Lodge will be open to small groups only starting in May through October. Please use the Group Registration Form to schedule a visit. Your visit includes a guided walk or program, access to the exhibits in the lodge, and an opportunity to browse the gift shop. Group size is limited to 20 people. Masks required inside. A $5/person fee supports outreach and education efforts at Mount A.

The Learning Lodge interior will otherwise remain closed to the public at least through July.  If you’re a larger school or summer camp group looking to visit the Lodge or participate in a guided program, please go ahead and fill out our Group Registration form and we’ll get back to you about planning your trip!

A pop-up version of the Mount A Gift Shop is open this season. You’ll find us on the Learning Lodge steps most Saturdays and Sundays from 12-3pm.

➤ Site Rules –

Help us protect this important resource and each other by abiding by all Park Rules including:

  • Stay on marked and designated trails.
  • Keep dogs ON LEASH at all times.
  • Take all trash out with you, including pet waste.
